Installing Windspires at Homearama 2009 Rochester NY
We will be spinning July 11th-26th Somerset Hill, Victor NY
The site, ready to Inspire.

Wind to Power: Power to Inspire
Start to dig the foundation

5ft square and 5ft deep

Yep that's deep enough
Although this install will be temporary (for duration of the homeshow) the WindSpire (from Mariah Power ) will still need a good foundation to make sure it is vertical and spins true. Here we start work on the concrete form.

Concrete form being constructed
OK. so while you finish that one while we go down the hill and start the next.

Moving down the hill 30ft
Weren’t you in the other trench?

Digging out the last of #2
Because this installation is temporary, we chose to do a shallow but wide base. This actually takes more time than a simple 2ft diameter 6-8ft deep foundation….. (But 8ft long concrete tube is not something we want to try taking out after he show).

Framework all ready to pour concrete

Another view showing reinforcement
And the second base is moving along also.

Starting to build second framework
For the towers to be vertical, it all starts with the base being set level

Reinforcement steel goes in first
With the help of Jim and Pat, and lack of cooperation from the weather…
Pouring the concrete foundations

finishing and leveling the top

Pouring number 2

Nice job finishing the top
Recipe for concrete bases:
1) Dig big hole
2) Pour concrete
3) Wait 5days for concrete to cure

Putting it in perspective
And so for the moment, as the rain clouds gather once again, we leave our concrete to cure. Next task running 250ft of wire to the Landmark display home…… (Everyone is being very helpful, Homearama organizers, Morrell’s development site supervisor, Landmark builders and electrician and RG&E who are speeding through a grid connection agreement).
